The Short Adventure of Timmy

There was this grand civilisation, made successful by a great gigantic dam upstream that powered the agriculture and industries in the civilisation. Technology was advanced and prosperity was abundant in this nation.

The community grew and flourished, as can be expected of any civilisation with advanced technology and agriculture. With this, the leaders began rallying for expansion of the dam for greater growth and the people supported the motion. Thus, the civilisation grew and grew.

Timmy was a special boy, born into the golden era of this civilisation. Timmy saw and perceived much more than what meets the eyes. However, it wasn't discovered by Timmy that he was special until one fine day, when a crack began to appear on the dam.

“This is a small problem. Let us just patch up the dam and strengthen it,” said the leaders. And the architects and engineers sprung into actions, instructing on the work to be done to repair and strengthen the dam.

Timmy the young boy braved himself and proposed, “Sir, how about we divert the water off the dam a bit, build a few small dams and reduce the pressure on this dam?”

Everyone roared into laughter, “Oh boy! How naïve of you. This ain't necessary. We'll solve the problem in no time.” And Timmy was soon forgotten from the minds of the townsmen.

Timmy was saddened by the public embarrassment and went up into hills to search for solace. Up in the hills, he decided that he should start digging streams to divert the dam water. This will save the whole city, he thought.

And so, day by day, Timmy will sneak up into the hills to do the digging by himself. However, at the same time, the dam began to show more and more cracks and leaks. So, the architects and engineers had to work harder and harder in repairing and strengthening the dam.

Timmy came to town again to persuade the townsmen to help divert the water off the dam.

“Timmy, don't be stupid. We can fix the dam. And some more, we need water in the dam. We can't divert water away from it.” And so, Timmy was left alone in his futile attempt of digging streams.

As much as the architects and engineers worked day and night on the dam, they failed to catch up with the appearances of cracks and leaks. And soon, they were drafting in more and more of the townsmen into working on the dam.

This caused a bad slowdown in the economy, as more and more people are taken away from their productive works into repairing the dam.

“Where is Timmy? We need more hands!” called out one of the engineers. Reluctantly, Timmy was drafted into the reparation work too.

As he worked on the dam, Timmy had this horrible silent scream in his head, “We're all going to die. Why can't you all see that diverting the water off will solve the problem? Why not?!?”

“Stop whining and get to work, this is how the world work. We have to save the dam and keep the dam running,” said the townsmen who heard of Timmy's idea.

As all can be expected of great civilisations, this civilisation was wiped clean when the dam finally broke apart. And Timmy the young boy left behind nothing but a breath of desparation and disappointment...
